PRAYER REQUESTS

Prayer request from Carol Little: Carol is hoping to join the Intercontinental Church Society (ICS) Mission Team in Zermatt in the New Year.

ICS is an Anglican Mission Society supporting English speaking churches in Europe and will provide a chaplain to lead services at specific points in the year.  They seek to let English speaking people of any nationality know about Christ in the Scriptures.  ICS supports the mission of approx 65 English speaking, international congregations in several continents.  Each year, the mission has an “outreach” in Zermatt or Wengen.  As you probably know Switzerland although it has a Calvinistic background can be a place of difficulty for evangelical Christians who find themselves very isolated.

Zermatt is one place where a mission is run every year at either Christmas or New Year with the aim of supporting the very small evangelical community there, put on services aimed at the holiday makers (some of whom are extremely rich and not the sort of people who generally go any where near church most times of the year) and the aim is to bring people to Christ in a warm and open, loving way. In all the beauty of Zermatt, with the Matterhorn as a backdrop, God's power in creation and his open arms to the lost are preached.

A series of special Services will be held in Zermatt in the New Year and the hotels in Zermatt will be targeted with leaflets, advertising the Services which are aimed at fitting in with the holiday maker.  These need to be staffed by the Mission Team so that there is a welcome. The Mission Team will also target the bars and cafes as a form of outreach, in which openchat is done in a non threatening way.

For those on the Team who don’t feel they can do the outreach, there is a need for prayer support and they will be the prayer warriors for the rest of the team. There is a need for participation in the Services such as readings, music etc and the Team will be involved in all of these.

Moray, who is sent as chaplain, preached at my niece’s wedding this year and he is the chaplain to the Goodenough College in London.  He is a Rev and was at Oxford.  He is a soft gloved evangelist and a man on fire for Christ.

The dates I have been given to come and join the Team are any time from 30 December – 13 January and as I have to fund all travel and accommodation myself, it is entirely up to me how when I arrive and how long I can stay.  I just know that I will be able to contribute to the Team and am fired up with enthusiasm regarding outreach.  What I would like to ask is for your prayers that a way will be found for me to go, and once there, that the Mission Team, working together will be able to bring people to Christ and support the Church.

From a purely practical point, if anyone would like to assist me with a donation towards the travel and accommodation, then that would be absolutely fantastic.  I will need to fly to a regional UK airport (I get seasick on the boat) in order to fly out to Geneva as cheaply as possible (Easyjet most likely).  From there I will have to catch a train to Zermatt.  Accommodation will be very basic self catering, sharing with the other Mission Team members and we will take turns with the cooking.  All of this is purely voluntary so any financial assistance to spread the word of God will be very gratefully received.

Thank you, Carol 31.8.08
